SAJAMA VOLCANO (6.548mts.)
Climbing: Medium Difficulty, For experienced climbers.
Sajama town located in the southeast of Bolivia, 25 km near border to the Chile, this region is reach in termal waters, and is the point of origin of the Lauca river and at 4.750 mts. us the keñuas forest, the highest forest in the world yaretales used by local people for fuel, tholas, paja brava, and a great variety of other abound in this region. It is also the natural habitat of Andean animals such as, llamas, vicuñas, and alpacas, ñandu or suri (Andean ostriches), wallata or wild geese, pink flamengoes perdices, wild mallard ducks, viscachas, chinchillas, mountain cats, pumas, foxes, etc. also the area has got its own cultural patrimony, which is the Curaguara de Carangas church.
The highest point of this impressive volcanic cone is the highest elevation in Bolivia, Sajama Volcano (6.548mts.), found within the area of the Sajama National Park, in the province of Curahuara de Carangas (Departament of Oruro).

Day 01: Departure from La Paz by vehicle transport to Bolivia arrives to the village of Sajama (4.400mts.). trip for about 4.30 hours. After lunch, ascent for about 3 hours walking to the base (4.700mts. above sea level) with assistance of pack animals. Night camping.
Day 02: Ascent to the high camp (5.600mts. above sea level) with assistance of high altitude porters for about 5 hours. Night camping.
Day 03: Climbing to the summit of the Sajama (6.548mts. above sea level) return to the high camp for about 12 hours. Night camping.
Day 04: Descent to the base camp or hot springs. Long journey in the afternoon to return to La Paz city, arrival to your hotel and end of our services.
The difficulty level of Sajama (6.549 m.a.s.l), in technical words is not difficult, but it requires a good acclimatizing and good shape.
An IUAGM international mountain guide who also belongs to the High Mountain Guides Association of Bolivia. AGMT. Assistant guides are instructed by ENSA France School – Chamonix.
We count with experienced porters who carry the collective heavy equipment, food, tents, from de base to the high camp.
The mountaineers should carry their personal equipment.
We have tents an igloo style for two person (European fashion for high mountain tent, mattress).North face and Mountain Hardware tents.
The high mountain security gear is included (rope, stakes, ice screws, etc.).
TECHNICS OF ASCENT
By the normal route is the following.: The difference of level is: 838 m. Technical difficulty: Half easy Inclination: 40 to 50 grades.
Our experienced cook provides three meals a day during the expedition. We have two kind of food vegetarian and no vegetarian. Dried fruit or energetic bars are recommended.
